This mother-daughter team is everything! GO Serlina. GO Faith!

Serlina Boyd decided to publish and design the Cocoa Girl book and magazine with her daughter, Faith, to empower black girls around the world who are more likely to be insulted about their looks by the age of 8 years old.

Its mission is to build a community for young Black Girls who are misrepresented a lot of the time in the media. This magazine also supports parents and care givers.

During lockdown, six-year-old Faith and her mother Serlina searched for magazines that represented children like her. The realisation that there was a lack of diversity in magazines for younger girls led them to design and print the first ever UK magazine for black girls aged seven to 14. "Some of them have never seen a black girl on the front of a cover before," says Serlina. Since publication, Cocoa Girl has experienced a surge in sales, selling more than 11,000 copies since it launched in June.
