THE SHORT OF THE LONG
I’m a classically trained Baltimore School for the Arts graduate, who trained under the tutelage of Sylvester Campbell, Norma Pera, Stephanie Powell, Debra Robinson Deckelbaum, and Hinton Battle.
While enrolled in The Juilliard School under the direction of Benjamin Harkarvy, Linda Kent, and Christine Dakin, I was afforded the opportunity to perform with Creative Outlet, Jubilation, Complexions, and Donald Byrd The Group. Upon graduating with a BFA, I relocated to Frankfurt, Germany to join Ballet Frankfurt under the direction of William Forsythe.
Returning to NYC garnered me an opportunity to become a principle dancer in The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater by torch bearer and performer extraordinaire, Judith Jamison.
While on Broadway I continued to build my repertoire and dance under the choreographic genius of Camille Brown, Donald Byrd, Sergio Trujillo, Warren Carlyle, Rob Ashford, Sonya Tayeh, as well as through the choreographic work created by Bob Fosse.
EDUCATOR
Throughout my performance career I’ve taught ballet, modern and jazz at Alvin Ailey (1 company class), Creative Outlet Dance Theater, The Broadway Experience, NYCDA, Joffrey’s Jazz Summer Intensive and The Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company. I am a dance coach for countless youngsters entering competitions like ACT-SO, ARTS and performing arts high schools and colleges.
Being Zena Rommett Floor Barre Certfied, I value the vessels we’ve been given to share our craft in. Therefore, I emphasize and promote healthy body images during my master classes and lectures that focus on the art of being a well-rounded artist inside and out.
